Dolly’s Burgers Shutters All Locations Following Big Boy Legal Battle
Michigan-based Big Boy Restaurant Group is closing six Cincinnati-area locations following a legal dispute with rival Frisch’s Big Boy, according to Restaurant Business Online.
The restaurants opened earlier this year as Dolly’s Burgers and Shakes after a court-ordered restraining order prevented Big Boy Restaurant Group from using the Big Boy name in the region. The dispute stems from a 2000 agreement that granted Frisch’s exclusive rights to the Big Boy trademark in Indiana, Kentucky, and parts of Ohio and Tennessee.
Despite rebranding to Dolly’s, Big Boy Restaurant Group determined that continuing operations without the Big Boy name was unsustainable. Both companies have faced declining sales and store closures in recent years.
Big Boy Restaurant Group expressed hope it may return to the market once the litigation is resolved.
